2026 NSW/ACT Young Achiever Awards Photography in Sydney

The 2026 NSW/ACT Young Achiever Awards brought finalists, families, presenters and sponsors into the Grand Ballroom at Shangri-La Sydney on Friday 24 July.

Awards Australia booked Shameless Visuals to photograph the formal program and the people around it. The job covered the room before doors opened, guest arrivals, the stage program, award presentations, reactions at the tables and the official photographs at the end of the night.

The brief: cover the whole night, not just the handshakes

The run sheet moved from a finalist and presenter rehearsal into arrivals, entertainment, speeches, category awards and the overall winner announcement.

That meant the coverage had to do a few jobs at once. The organiser needed a clear record of the formal program. Sponsors needed clean branded frames. Finalists and winners needed photographs they would actually want to share. The final gallery also needed enough room and guest coverage to show what the night felt like away from the lectern.

The brief included stage and award photographs, but it did not stop there. Wide ballroom frames, step-wall groups, guest portraits, audience reactions and the smaller conversations between formalities all mattered.

The setting: Shangri-La Sydney Grand Ballroom

The Grand Ballroom was already doing plenty visually: a large LED stage, sponsor wall, formal tables, strong coloured light and a room built around the presentation program.

The first photographs established the venue before guests arrived. From there, the coverage moved through arrivals and group portraits before the room settled for the 7:30 pm start.

Those early frames give the later award photographs context. You can see the scale of the room, the event branding and the people who came to support the finalists before the formal part of the night took over.

The coverage: formal photographs and the room around them

The finished set moves between four parts of the night:

  • Ballroom, stage and sponsor context before the formal program.
  • Guest arrivals, step-wall portraits and finalist groups.
  • Entertainment, speeches, presentations and audience reactions.
  • Category winners, the overall winner and official closing photographs.

That mix keeps the gallery useful. There are clear record photographs for Awards Australia and its partners, polished portraits for the people being recognised, and enough candid coverage to show the night as an event rather than a sequence of people standing beside a certificate.

The approach: follow the run sheet without making the event wait

Michael Usher hosted the evening, with Kei Takusagawa performing on euphonium before the formal welcome. The program then moved through the Welcome to Country, speeches, certificates and category presentations.

The timing was tight enough that the camera position and next photograph had to be considered before each segment began. A handover, reaction or winner announcement cannot be replayed because the photographer was on the wrong side of the room.

The final award named Jarrett Anthoney as the 2026 NSW/ACT Young Achiever of the Year. Once the presentation finished, the coverage shifted into the official stage photographs and winner groups before the event closed.

The edit: the strongest clean photographs only

The final client folder contains 359 photographs from Corey’s coverage. This page uses a smaller 20-image edit chosen for quality and variety.

Every selected frame was checked for sharpness, expression, colour and how it handled the LED stage. Images with obvious banding or colour breakup were left out, even when the moment itself was useful. The result is a cleaner project story without repeating the same stage angle twenty times.

The result: a complete gala story

The completed gallery covers the gala from the empty ballroom through to the final winner photographs. Attendees can browse and download the event photographs from the Sydney Young Achiever Awards 2026 gallery.

For organisers planning a similar program, the useful starting point is simple: send the date, venue, rough run sheet, sponsor priorities and the photographs you know you cannot miss. The rest can be built around how the night actually runs.

FAQs

Questions about the 2026 NSW/ACT Young Achiever Awards photography

For this NSW/ACT Young Achiever Awards gala, coverage began with the room before doors and continued through rehearsal, arrivals, entertainment, speeches, category presentations, table reactions, the overall winner and official end-of-night photographs. An organiser should mark each non-repeatable stage moment and required group in running order.

Allow access before doors for clean views of the formal tables, large LED stage, sponsor wall and coloured-light design. Once guests enter, those elements become backgrounds for arrivals, presentations and group photographs. The access window should be confirmed with the venue rather than assumed from the published event start.

Identify the sponsor wall, branded stage contexts, category presenters, finalists, winners and any required partner groups before the program starts. This gala included step-wall groups and winner combinations as well as stage photographs, so sponsor value depended on more than a logo appearing in a wide room frame.

The organiser should provide the exact presentation order and flag which categories need both stage and audience coverage. At this gala, presentations and table reactions were both priorities. Whether one position can cover both depends on room access and timing, so the must-have response should be ranked in advance.

The client folder contained 359 photographs, while the published selection displays only 20. That count describes this particular program and is not a package promise. Future gallery size will depend on the run time, number of categories, access, groups and requested sponsor coverage.

Send the date, venue rooms, access time, guest count, complete run sheet, rehearsal and arrival windows, award categories, sponsor obligations, stage positions, group list and required delivery timing. This project’s 7:30 pm program, presentation order and official photographs show why a gala title alone is not enough.

Couldn’t be happier with the experience! From start to finish, Corey from Shameless Visuals made our wedding day feel relaxed and fun while still capturing everything perfectly. The photos are incredible — a mix of candid moments, creative shots, and those timeless images you actually want to hang on the wall. If you’re looking for Adelaide wedding photography that’s genuine, stress-free, and beautifully edited, this is the guy. Every detail was covered — from getting-ready shots to the dance floor chaos — and the turnaround time was super quick. Easily one of the best wedding photographers in Adelaide, and I’d recommend them to anyone who wants natural, professional photos without the awkward poses.

I had a wonderful experience working with Corey for my graduation photos. The photos turned out natural, beautiful, and minimal, just the way I wanted. He guided me with the poses I had shown him beforehand and made sure I felt comfortable during the shooting. The edits were perfect, and he was very attentive to my requests, which made me really happy with the final results. I truly appreciate his effort, and I’d highly recommend him!
