The 2025 Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) National Conference took over the Adelaide Convention Centre for three days of professional development, networking, and exhibitor action. I was brought in to provide full conference photography coverage and run an on-site Headshot Hub — a service that’s growing in popularity for good reason. This wasn’t just about snapping some speaker pics. The brief: what this project needed to show
🎯 What Speech Pathology Australia Needed From This ShootSPA’s events team had a crystal-clear brief. They needed: A professional event photographer in Adelaide An operational Headshot Hub activation for delegates Coverage of keynote speakers including Maggie Beer , Dr Fiona Kerr , Vishnu Nair , and Steven Warrior Candid images of networking and the welcome reception Sponsor and exhibitor content for post-event promotion But they also needed content that felt human — diverse, inclusive, professional. No staged grip-and-grins. No people mid-bite. No over-polished filters. And absolutely no empty chairs in wide shots. This style of coverage — mixing documentation and audience-facing content — has also worked well for other projects like GENCA’s 3-day national conference , the Young Achiever Awards , and the Wilpena Pound retreat .

SPA assigned a 6x2m booth space in the exhibition hall — enough room for a clean portable studio with lighting, neutral backdrop, and real-time adjustments. The Headshot Hub ran for two full days and never slowed down. Delegates booked in between sessions to get updated, retouched headshots — perfect for websites, LinkedIn profiles, internal communications, or simply ditching their outdated photo from 2013.
