Back at WESS

I was back at WESS in Wingfield for their 2026 trade night. Welding demos were running, suppliers had their gear out and the barbecue was on before everyone settled in for a stainless steel masterclass.

I moved between the demo floor and supplier stands, photographing the welding in action and the conversations around it. There’s a separate look at the WESS Tech Centre photo and video shoot if you’d like to see more of the space.

A bit closer to the sparks

The welding gave me plenty to work with: bright arcs, flying sparks and people getting stuck into the equipment. I mixed those closer shots with wider views of the PFERD and Air Liquide stands, so the suppliers and their setups were part of the pictures too.

In between demos, I kept photographing the conversations around the benches and displays. Not everyone needs to stop what they’re doing and look at the camera.

A barbecue, then back inside

There was time for a bite and a chat outside before the masterclass. I caught a few laughs around the tables, then followed the evening back into the warehouse.

Inside, I photographed the speaker, the presentation and the audience seated between the warehouse shelves. The lit-up WESS entrance made it into the set too.

Frequently asked questions

What do you need to know before photographing our trade night?

Send me the date, venue, timings and any people or demos you need covered. A run sheet helps, along with any supplier photo requirements and deadlines for getting the photos back.

Can you make sure our suppliers get photos too?

Yes. Let me know which exhibitors need photos and any sponsor requirements. I’ll include their stands, gear and conversations with visitors, not just an empty display before the doors open.

Can you cover the demos as well as people catching up?

Yes. Send me the demo times so I can work around them and photograph the conversations in between. If things are happening in different places at once, flag that when we plan the coverage.

Will people have to stop and pose?

Not for most of the evening. I work around what’s happening and photograph people as they go. We can still make time for team or group photos you need.

What should we tell you about the presentations?

Send me the speaker times and let me know about the stage, screen and any places I can’t stand. That helps me find a spot for the speaker and audience photos without getting in everyone’s way.

Can we add video or headshots to the booking?

Yes, let me know what you need before we book it in. Video and headshots need their own time, so we’ll work out how they fit around the event photography.

Could we get a few photos for social media on the day?

Ask me when you enquire. Same-day photos need to be arranged in advance so there’s time to select, edit and send them. Let me know when you need them, rather than leaving it until the end of the night.

What if we need photos for this year’s recap and next year’s event?

Tell me where the photos will be used and any formats you need. I can plan a mix of speakers, suppliers, people chatting and wider views of the event, with room in the frame for a crop or some text where needed.
