What do you get when you mix hundreds of speech pathologists, keynote speakers, a jam-packed exhibition floor, and a non-stop Headshot Hub? A full-body photographic workout — and a gallery that actually gets used.
The 2025 Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) National Conference took over the Adelaide Convention Centre for three days of professional development, networking, and exhibitor action. I was brought in to provide full conference photography coverage and run an on-site Headshot Hub — a service that’s growing in popularity for good reason.
This wasn’t just about snapping some speaker pics. It was a full-scale visual content strategy, built for national associations who want more than just a photo dump at the end.
SPA’s events team had a crystal-clear brief. They needed:
An operational Headshot Hub activation for delegates
Coverage of keynote speakers including Maggie Beer, Dr Fiona Kerr, Vishnu Nair, and Steven Warrior
Candid images of networking and the welcome reception
Sponsor and exhibitor content for post-event promotion
But they also needed content that felt human — diverse, inclusive, professional. No staged grip-and-grins. No people mid-bite. No over-polished filters. And absolutely no empty chairs in wide shots.
This style of coverage — mixing documentation and audience-facing content — has also worked well for other projects like GENCA’s 3-day national conference, the Young Achiever Awards, and the Wilpena Pound retreat.
SPA assigned a 6x2m booth space in the exhibition hall — enough room for a clean portable studio with lighting, neutral backdrop, and real-time adjustments.
The Headshot Hub ran for two full days and never slowed down. Delegates booked in between sessions to get updated, retouched headshots — perfect for websites, LinkedIn profiles, internal communications, or simply ditching their outdated photo from 2013.
In between sessions, I covered:
Plenary speakers and Welcome to Country
Breakout presentations and panel discussions
Sponsor and exhibitor branding in Halls M, N, and O
Presenter prep and backstage AV moments
Bonus highlight: catching a few candid moments with Maggie Beer, who was speaking on Day 1.

For over 15 years I’ve been asked to critically assess headshot photos. I’m also always hearing people say that they wish the photographer had told them to tilt their head less, lower their chin, and fix a random lock of hair. So it’s a delight to work with a talented photographer who makes their subjects feel completely at ease and has an immense talent for bringing out the best in people. At the ACCPA conference I did mini-profile reviews, while Corey took profile photos. (We were both sponsored by NNP.) To see how Corey interacts with people and the top results of his work – wow! I highly recommend Corey to anyone needing a professional photoshoot. Athena Ermides2024-10-29Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Most conferences rely on boring lead gen tactics: badge scans, cold emails, QR codes to nowhere. A Headshot Hub flips that on its head.
Instead of trying to extract contact info with a gimmick, you offer something attendees actually want — a professional headshot — and in return, you get:
Verified attendee data (name, email, position, company)
Meaningful engagement (they sit down, talk to you, and trust you with their image)
Post-event follow-up opportunities (via gallery access or retouching delivery)
For associations like SPA, this wasn’t just a service — it was a high-value activation that delivered measurable engagement.
🧠 Compared to traditional lead gen methods, here’s how a Headshot Hub stacks up:
Method | Value for Attendee | Opt-In Quality | Brand Perception |
---|---|---|---|
QR codes at stands | Low | Weak | Forgettable |
Swag giveaways | Medium (short-lived) | Low | Generic |
Headshot Hub activation | High (personal use) | Strong | Professional + Useful |
Want the proof? After SPA 2025, headshot requests continued to roll in. The event team now has a full gallery of well-lit delegate images for social media, internal promotion, and future campaigns — content that keeps working long after the event wraps up.
If you’re planning a national conference or multi-day event, a Headshot Hub isn’t just a gimmick — it’s a marketing asset. Add real value for attendees while collecting usable leads and branded content that keeps working long after the final keynote.

Whether your next event is in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, or a regional venue, I bring the full setup with me — lights, backdrop, stands, reflectors, and a bulletproof workflow. It’s a portable studio that works anywhere in the country.
With mixed lighting, tight timetables, and changing room layouts, the SPA 2025 job called for gear and instincts to match. Key strategies included:
Wide aperture zooms for low-light plenary and breakout rooms
Controlled flash setup in the booth, dialled for fast processing and flattering tones
A consistent editing style — clean, realistic, and suitable for both corporate and creative use
This approach — combining event photography, headshots, and content for ongoing brand use — is ideal for conferences looking to maximise ROI.
✅ Full event gallery from all three days
✅ Named, retouched headshots for each participating delegate
✅ A short conference highlight reel
✅ Press and social-ready branded content
Bonus win: After a hiccup with the Day 1 upload, I re-synced the full set and ensured every requested keynote, including Maggie Beer and Vishnu Nair, was properly delivered.

This article was written by Corey M — the bloke behind Shameless Visuals, based right here in Adelaide. Whether it’s chasing the Southern Lights through a frosty paddock or setting up lights in a boardroom, the job’s the same: find the shot that actually means something.
When Corey’s not editing until his eyeballs hurt, he’s out shooting everything from commercial campaigns to birthday chaos to full-scale conference coverage. No fluff, no gimmicks — just real work that makes people take notice.
If you’re here reading this, chances are you’re after more than just a pretty picture. Here’s what Shameless Visuals actually does:
Professional headshot photography for teams, creatives, and anyone who’s sick of cropping themselves out of group shots.
Commercial photography in Adelaide that shows products and brands at their best — not in some soulless stock style.
Real estate and drone photography that makes listings stand out, even in a flooded market.
Event and corporate photography that captures energy, moments, and actual people (not just blurry backs of heads).
Portrait photography that brings out character without making it awkward.
Boudoir photography that’s more about confidence than clichés — completely private, entirely on your terms.
