The 2025 7NEWS SA Young Achiever Awards celebrated South Australians under 30 doing standout things in community, business, sport, and beyond. The event brought together around 400 guests for a formal gala at the Hilton Adelaide — and I was locked in as both official event photographer and official sponsor.

Awards Australia didn’t just need someone to show up with a camera. They needed a photographer who could:

The Grand Ballroom at Hilton Adelaide is a familiar space — flattering lighting up top, but heavy reliance on ambient tones once the evening kicks in. I knew I’d need to bring gear that could handle both the formal and the fleeting.
Nikon ZF with fast primes handled most of the night (50mm f/1.8S and 85mm)
A backup mirrorless body and flash setup were prepped in case of emergency
A detailed floor plan helped track sponsor tables and the group winner photo timing
Photos included everything from red-carpet-style guest arrivals to branded wine being poured for sponsors. It wasn’t just about checking boxes — it was about making sure the night felt cohesive across every frame.
This setup is similar to what I used during WESS Welding’s industry celebration, where the job was about making real moments feel polished enough for post-event marketing.
As a formal event sponsor, my name was printed in the 28-page event program, projected on the venue’s large screens, and included on every table’s signage. I also produced branded A6 flyers and business cards, delivered a few days before, which were distributed across all 40 tables during Hilton’s setup window.
